Andersen Windows and Doors
Windows (New Construction)
Andersen’s premium double hung window, the Tilt n Wash,
400 series, is one of my favorite choices for wood/new construction
windows. Most people replacing their windows don’t want
to change the exterior and interior trim. Andersen is generally
not an option as a custom sized, pocket fit replacement window.
Thus, you need to tear everything out if you want Andersen
windows.
Andersen Windows are the most popular windows in the world.
I get many calls from people requesting Andersen windows because
they believe they are the best. My answer to this is simple.
Budweiser is the most popular beer in America… but personally
I don’t think it is the best. Andersen makes a very
good, reasonably priced new construction window, but I don’t
feel like it is the best option given all the other choices.
Andersen makes a great window called the Tilt n Wash, 400
series. This is a great new construction window. They also
make a great Casement, Awning, and Bay or Bow windows. I am
not a fan of their lower end windows… most window companies
have a window they try to push to builders. I suggest spending
more money now instead of later.
Andersen Good Points:
- Easy operating sashes, smooth and clean lines
- Multiple hardware options
- Quality full screen
- Nice snap in grids, and now available in simulated divided
lite muntins
- Maintenance free vinyl clad exteriors
- Tilt in for easy cleaning
- Great brand name recognition
Andersen’s not so good points would be that their
tilt function is a bit tedious. The vinyl exterior is not
paintable.
Woodwright Series
Andersen Woodwright Series Replacement Windows: Andersen
has joined the replacement window market by introducing the
Woodwright Series wood replacement window. This window
is designed along the lines of the Andersen 400 Series Tilt
and Wash window. The Woodwright window is similar. The
window has only been available for about a year in the New
England Area. It tilts in for easy cleaning,
and looks like the 400 series. It is available in a pine interior
finish or prepainted white at a very reasonable price. It
also has full divided lites, snap in grids, and between the
glass (fine lite) grids available. It comes in 4 exterior
colors: white, sand tone, terra tone, and green.
Andersen Patio Doors
Andersen makes a great Frenchwood hinged door. It is
my personal favorite. They also make quality sliders in
both a vinyl and wood interior model. There are many hardware
options, and 3 exterior colors, white, sandtone and terratone.
